Move to This: Philip Glass

My students know -- and are quite possibly sick of (HA!) -- how much I love using the work of Philip Glass in our movement experiments.

There is something in his simple, repetitive pieces that is deep and allows for diving into the self in ways that other music does not.

With this piece, think about and feel the spirals in your body. Imagine a central, core spiral and see the energy or light of that cascading down and out the arms and legs and the top of the head.

Make spirals externally...with the feet, the hands, the arms, the legs, the head, the elbows, the hips, and on and on, but more importantly move from the internal spirals. Follow them out of you.

This piece is only five minutes, so I suggest you go through it at least twice.
